AliousAn audio clip heard in the background of an Instagram video posted by Wilfried Zaha’s wife appears to suggest that the Ivory Coast international is regretting his move to Galatasaray.
Zaha, widely regarded as the greatest player in Crystal Palace’s history, decided to join the Turkish giants on a free transfer in July after his contract at Selhurst Park expired.
However, the 31-year-old’s time in Turkey has not been a smooth sailing, as he has made more substitute appearances (14) than starts (13) in the Super Lig.
In the video posted by Paige Zaha, the couple can be seen watching Wilfried’s best goals for Crystal Palace together. Approximately 20 seconds into the video, the winger can be heard saying, “when I used to play football,” in a slightly disgruntled tone.
If Zaha is indeed regretting his move to Galatasaray, it is sure to sadden the Crystal Palace faithful, who, despite being upset by his departure, wished him well and celebrated his first UEFA Champions League goal for his new club in October with a sense of pride, as if a family member had scored.
Even Yannick Bolasie, Zaha’s former teammate, sent him a congratulatory message after that goal.
For whatever reason, Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has not taken to Zaha, leaving Crystal Palace’s record Premier League goalscorer (68) on the bench twice in their last three Super Lig outings.
While it might not make financial or squad planning sense, considering Zaha will turn 32 this year, Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish should at least inquire about the possibility of bringing the Abidjan native back to SE25.
