Farke’s Team Nears Promotion
Daniel Farke’s Leeds team is just two matches away from ascending from the Championship to the Premier League, with a playoff semi-final rematch against Norwich City on the horizon, followed by a potential final at Wembley against either Southampton or West Brom.
Leeds must carve out a new chapter in their history to achieve promotion through the playoffs, a feat they have not yet accomplished, with their most recent playoff disappointment occurring against Derby County in 2019, although they achieved direct promotion the next year.
The club’s uncertain future complicates team planning, especially with the club’s recently disclosed financial losses of £33.7m and outstanding transfer payments.
Nevertheless, reports indicate that Leeds is intent on leveraging their current assets and not succumbing to lowball offers from other clubs.
Negotiations Over Loan Player
Leeds is determined not to let their players go for less than their worth this summer, as Borussia Monchengladbach is discovering.
Maximilian Wober, who joined the German team on loan from Leeds six months after his arrival, has had a notable season there, appearing 25 times in the Bundesliga and contributing two goals and three assists.
The club is keen to secure him permanently after his commendable performance.
However, the absence of a buy option or obligation in the loan agreement has complicated their efforts to sign him, especially as his impressive play has increased his market value.
Bild reports that Wober’s tenure at the club may conclude with the upcoming match against Stuttgart, as Leeds is asking for 17 million euros (£14.5m) to finalize the transfer, which is 3 million euros above his estimated market value according to Transfermarkt.
On the other hand, ‘Gladbach is prepared to offer only 9 million euros for a permanent deal. Leeds, however, is optimistic that Wober’s potential standout performance in the European Championship will spark increased interest and potentially trigger a bidding contest for the defender, who still has three years remaining on his £35,000-per-week contract at Elland Road.
Wober could prove to be a valuable asset for Daniel Farke if Leeds secures a return to the Premier League.
If they stay in the Championship, the 49ers aim to profit from the defender, making it clear they won’t be easily outmaneuvered regarding their loanee roster.
