AliousSpurs Face Liverpool Rival for Brøndby Striker Suzuki Amid Summer Interest
Tottenham Hotspur could be set for a transfer tussle with Liverpool over the signing of Brøndby forward Yuito Suzuki this summer, according to reports.
The 22-year-old Japanese U21 international has emerged as a target for both Premier League clubs after an impressive season in the Danish Superliga.
Spurs had scouts in attendance to watch Suzuki score the winner in Brøndby’s 1-0 victory over FC Nordsjælland in a playoff fixture this week. However, Liverpool have also been keeping close tabs on the promising striker.
The interest from Anfield is said to stem from newly-appointed Reds boss Arne Slot, who was heavily linked with the Tottenham job before Ange Postecoglou’s arrival.
As well as the two Premier League rivals, a host of other European giants including Manchester United, Manchester City, AC Milan, Ajax, Espanyol and Stuttgart are also credited with scouting Suzuki over his exploits this campaign.
The Japanese starlet has plundered 11 goals and provided 9 assists across 30 appearances in all competitions for Brøndby so far this season.
While Suzuki could represent an exciting long-term acquisition, Spurs’ immediate priority may lie in pursuing a readymade striker solution ahead of next season, with Brentford talisman Ivan Toney widely tipped as their main target.
Nevertheless, Suzuki’s potential has alerted clubs across the continent, setting up the possibility of a bidding war this summer between Spurs and Liverpool among others.
Tottenham have been proactively scouring the Scandinavian market, having beaten Barcelona to the signing of Swedish prospect Lucas Bergvall from Djurgården in January.
As Spurs shape their squad for Postecoglou’s rebuild, securing rising talents like Suzuki could form part of their long-term planning amid mounting competition.
