Everton’s long-serving captain Seamus Coleman believes he has a responsibility to contribute to the club’s cause for as long as he can, though he acknowledges that he will recognize when the time comes to call it quits. Coleman, along with fellow veteran Ashley Young, has been offered a one-year contract extension ahead of Everton’s final season at Goodison Park.

The 35-year-old, who joined the Toffees in a famous £60,000 move from Sligo Rovers in 2009, admits he put thoughts about his future on hold until after the Premier League campaign concluded with the final game against Arsenal on Sunday. The Republic of Ireland international stated that while the club has offered him a new deal, he hasn’t deeply considered it yet, as his focus was on getting through the remaining matches, especially after dealing with some recent injuries and niggles.

However, Coleman made it clear that he loves the club profoundly and feels a duty to help Everton as long as he believes he can contribute. “I make no secret about it, I absolutely love the football club, I feel like I have got a duty to help the football club while I still feel I can, so we’ll see where the next couple of weeks takes us,” he said.

This season, Coleman surpassed Tim Howard’s record for Premier League appearances for Everton, and after the Arsenal game, he now stands at 364, a dozen matches shy of knocking Dixie Dean out of the club’s all-time top 10 appearance makers across all competitions.

While acknowledging that he may not be able to play every game or feature as a winger anymore, Coleman believes he still has value to offer the dressing room with his experience, competitiveness, and understanding of what the club means to the city. He recognizes that his impact can be positive, whether he’s in the starting lineup or not, as he can relay important messages to his teammates when times get tough.

Coleman’s love for Everton is evident, and he plans to sit down and carefully consider his future in the coming weeks, with the desire to contribute to the club he idolizes for as long as possible.
