AliousAshley Young is keen on extending his tenure at Everton for at least another season as his current contract approaches its end. The experienced defender, who will celebrate his 39th birthday in July, joined Everton on a free transfer last summer after leaving Aston Villa.
During the previous season, Young featured in 34 matches across all competitions for Everton, scoring one goal. He often filled in as a full-back on either side of Sean Dyche’s defense, showcasing his versatility. This proved invaluable as injuries plagued other defenders like Vitaly Mykolenko, Seamus Coleman, and Nathan Patterson throughout the campaign.
Despite Everton facing an eight-point deduction, they managed to comfortably avoid relegation, finishing 15th in the table, 14 points clear of the relegation zone. Without the deduction, they would have secured a 12th-place finish, surpassing Bournemouth on goal difference, marking their best performance since the 2020/21 season.
Ashley Young’s Desire to Extend Stay at Everton:
Young’s current deal at Goodison Park expires on June 30th. However, the former England international has expressed his intention to continue with the Merseyside club beyond that date, potentially for another two years. He has already discussed this matter with Dyche.
“My contract ends in June, but I’ve spoken with the manager about staying for another season,” Young stated in an interview with talkSPORT. “We just need to finalize the details to secure the contract for the upcoming season.”
When asked if he wishes to remain at Everton for another season, Young replied affirmatively, saying, “Yes, I do. I’d like to keep playing for as long as possible, whether it’s a one-year or a two-year deal. Whatever they offer, I’m happy to sign. I enjoyed my time this season with the players and staff; it’s a fantastic club, and I’d love to return for another season.”
Everton has disclosed through their official channels that they have extended contract offers to both Young and Coleman.
