AliousLeeds Get Sargent Pursuit Boost as Pundit Doubts Idah’s Celtic Switch
Leeds United may have been handed an advantage in their attempts to prise Josh Sargent away from Norwich City this summer, after pundit Chris Sutton cast doubt over Adam Idah securing a permanent move to Celtic.
Idah, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Parkhead, had been expected to join Celtic on a full-time basis after impressing in Scotland. However, Sutton believes Norwich will demand a fee of £7m-£9m for the 23-year-old striker that could prove too rich for Celtic.
If Idah does remain at Carrow Road, it would increase competition for places alongside the in-demand Sargent next season – potentially persuading the USA international to pursue a move elsewhere to secure regular game time.
Leeds are among the clubs credited with an interest in signing the 24-year-old Sargent after his standout campaign of 16 goals fired Norwich to the Championship playoffs.
With incoming manager Daniel Farke known to be a “big fan” of Sargent’s from their time together at Norwich, Leeds could represent an attractive destination should they follow up their interest with a formal bid.
The Whites may need to offload fringe players like Crysencio Summerville and Wilfried Gnonto to raise funds. But securing a goalscorer of Sargent’s pedigree would be a major boost after their failure to gain Premier League promotion.
Sargent will likely want assurances over his game time next season ahead of featuring for the US at the 2026 World Cup. Leeds’ ability to guarantee him a starting role could swing any transfer tussle their way.
Norwich may also be tempted into cashing in on Sargent for the right price, rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires in 2025.
So while Celtic’s reluctance to match Norwich’s lofty valuation of Idah is far from ideal news at Parkhead, it could open a door for Leeds to swoop for their main striker target in Sargent.
