AliousSon Heung-min, the captain of the South Korean national football team and a key player for Tottenham Hotspur, has expressed his discomfort with the ongoing media speculation regarding a potential transfer away from his current club.
“I haven’t discussed anything with the team. At this moment, there’s nothing I can comment on,” Son told the press after South Korea’s 1-0 victory over China in a World Cup qualifier at the Seoul World Cup Stadium on Tuesday evening. “The current rumors are somewhat unsettling to me.
My commitment to Tottenham remains strong, and my contract still has time remaining.”
Son’s contract with Spurs runs until June 2025. However, there has be
en speculation in the British media about Tottenham potentially parting ways with their South Korean star as they look to revamp the team.
Rumors have suggested that Son might transfer to the Turkish club Fenerbahce and reunite with former Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.
Son signed his current contract in July 2021, and it is reported that Tottenham holds an option to extend the agreement by an additional year.
Previously, there were rumors that Son was considering a move to Saudi Arabia for a lucrative contract.
However, after a home friendly game, Son declared to the media: “Financial gain is not my driving force.
What’s most important for me is to compete in a league where I find joy and fulfillment.
There’s much more I aspire to achieve in the Premier League.”
In the recently concluded season, Spurs secured the fifth spot with 66 points, just two points behind Aston Villa, who clinched the fourth spot and a berth in the upcoming UEFA Champions League.
Son was a standout performer for his team, leading the squad with 17 goals and sharing the top spot for assists with Brennan Johnson, each contributing 10 assists.
