AliousChelsea defender Alfie Gilchrist is reportedly considering a loan move to Leeds United this summer.
Leeds, who missed out on promotion at the end of May, have been linked with several players, including Gilchrist, as they look to strengthen their squad.
Journalist Ben Jacobs recently revealed that Leeds are interested in bringing the 20-year-old Chelsea defender on loan.
Gilchrist, who made his breakthrough into Chelsea’s first team this season, has attracted attention from multiple Championship clubs.
Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End are also reportedly interested in securing Gilchrist on a season-long loan.
Jacobs provided further insights on the Just Joe Football Show, discussing the likelihood of Gilchrist joining Leeds or another Championship club for the 2024/25 season.
“The plan is for him to be loaned out to a Championship club, and that’s the player’s intent as well. Given his position, it’s unlikely Chelsea will keep him, but the timing is uncertain.
Clubs like Chelsea often prefer to take players through pre-season first,” Jacobs explained. “I expect he’ll end up at a Championship club, possibly in late July or early August. Leeds, Preston, and Blackburn have all shown interest.”
Jacobs added that Gilchrist is open to joining Leeds, despite the historic rivalry between Chelsea and Leeds. “He respects both clubs and is willing to help Leeds in their promotion fight.”
With Leeds having lost Joe Rodon and Connor Roberts after their loan spells ended, bringing in a versatile player like Gilchrist, who can play both right-back and centre-back alongside Pascal Struijk, makes sense.
