AliousScotland Captain Cooper Declared Fit for Euro Opener
Leeds United captain Liam Cooper has received a clean bill of health from Scotland boss Steve Clarke ahead of their Euro 2024 campaign opener against Germany on Friday.
Cooper had suffered an injury scare during the build-up when he was forced off following a heavy collision in the friendly against Gibraltar earlier this month, sparking fears of a potential knee problem.
However, the center-back made a quick recovery and was an unused substitute just four days later in the 2-2 draw with Finland, Scotland’s final warm-up match.
Providing an update on his full squad, Clarke confirmed there are no injury concerns, stating: “Everyone is fully fit, flying, desperate to be selected and ready to go.”
The news will be a boost for both Scotland and Leeds, with Cooper a key figure for both his country as captain and his club side, where he has led them to the brink of European qualification.
Having recovered from his recent scare, the 31-year-old defender is now in contention to start Scotland’s Euro 2024 curtain-raiser against the tournament hosts in Munich on Friday evening.
