Chelsea will need to act swiftly in their pursuit of Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise after Manchester United got the green light to activate their transfer plans by confirming Erik ten Hag will remain as manager.
The Blues have been long-term admirers of the £60m-rated Olise and were considered frontrunners to sign the French winger, who scored four goals in the final five weeks of the season despite an injury-plagued campaign.
However, United’s decision to stick with Ten Hag after a review could see them leapfrog Chelsea in the race for Olise’s signature now that the Dutchman’s future is resolved.
Palace had been hopeful of keeping Olise and teammate Eberechi Eze, with manager Oliver Glasner insisting they have contracts and the club’s ambition should convince them to stay.
But reports suggest Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with Olise, leaving negotiations with Palace as the remaining obstacle along with France’s desire to have him in their Olympic squad.
With United now able to firm up their transfer strategy under Ten Hag, they could provide stiff competition for one of Chelsea’s top targets as the summer window prepares to open.
