Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly set their sights on securing the services of Joan Garcia, the highly-rated goalkeeper from Espanyol.

However, Ange Postecoglou’s side will face stiff competition from an unlikely source, with Real Madrid also expressing interest in the 23-year-old Spaniard.

While Spurs have been primarily focused on bolstering their central defensive options, with reported admiration for Italian international Riccardo Calafiori, they have now turned their attention to strengthening their goalkeeping department.

According to respected journalist Ángel García, Tottenham are keen on acquiring Garcia’s services, but they are not alone in their pursuit.

Brighton, Valencia, and the Spanish giants Real Madrid are also vying for the promising shot-stopper’s signature after his impressive campaign with Espanyol last season.

Garcia made 20 appearances across all competitions in the 2023/24 season, keeping 11 clean sheets and conceding just 10 goals.

Espanyol holds a strong negotiating position, as the Sallent de Llobregat native still has four years remaining on his contract, which expires in July 2028.

Tottenham’s interest in Garcia could potentially be linked to the future of Fraser Forster.

The 36-year-old England international has only one year remaining on his contract, and the club may view Garcia as a long-term replacement for Forster.

Additionally, Spurs could also consider selling Forster this summer to generate a transfer fee before his contract expires in 2025.
