AliousJournalist Dan Bardell has advised Tottenham Hotspur to abandon their pursuit of Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey after Villa rejected an initial offer.
The proposed deal, reportedly worth £20 million plus Giovani Lo Celso, was turned down by Villa, who are said to be seeking up to £50 million for the 23-year-old England international.
Bardell, speaking to Tottenham News, acknowledged Ramsey’s talent but expressed skepticism about a deal materializing.
He noted that while Ramsey could fit into most Premier League teams, it’s unclear where he’d slot into Tottenham’s lineup, especially with James Maddison occupying the central role.
The journalist suggested that Tottenham’s bid seemed opportunistic, but Villa showed no interest.
He emphasized that Villa is unlikely to sell Ramsey to a direct rival for Champions League qualification, advising Spurs to move on from the pursuit.
Ramsey, despite an injury-plagued previous season, remains a valuable Premier League player. However, with three years left on his contract, Villa is under no pressure to sell.
The club is preparing for Champions League football and appears intent on retaining their key players.
Tottenham, under Ange Postecoglou, is looking to strengthen their squad after narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification last season.
While Ramsey could be a positive addition, the current circumstances suggest a deal is improbable, leading Bardell to recommend Spurs explore other options.
