AliousRyan Sessegnon’s Tottenham tenure comes to an end as his contract expires today, with Crystal Palace reportedly interested in acquiring the winger as a potential replacement for Michael Olise.
Sessegnon’s time at Spurs failed to meet expectations following his highly anticipated arrival in 2019.
The then 19-year-old joined Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino after impressing in the Premier League with Fulham and earning Championship Player of the Season honors in 2017/18.
Unfortunately, Sessegnon’s progress at Tottenham was hampered by persistent injury issues, particularly recurring hamstring problems.
He showed glimpses of his potential, notably forming a promising partnership with Matt Doherty under Antonio Conte after a successful loan spell at Hoffenheim.
However, these moments of promise were overshadowed by his struggle to maintain fitness and secure a regular place in the team.
This season proved particularly challenging for Sessegnon, with his fifth hamstring injury occurring during an U21 match intended to aid his return to fitness.
Subsequently, Tottenham announced his departure upon the expiration of his contract.
As Sessegnon becomes a free agent, Crystal Palace has reportedly expressed interest in the 24-year-old.
The Eagles are preparing for the potential loss of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and view Sessegnon as a possible replacement.
According to The Sun, Palace manager Oliver Glasner is considering the former Spurs player to bolster his attacking options.
Despite the disappointment surrounding his Tottenham career, Sessegnon’s underlying talent remains evident.
A move to Crystal Palace could provide him with the regular playing time needed to reignite his career, provided he can overcome his injury woes.
