AliousWilfred Ndidi’s Chapter at Leicester City Concludes
After seven-and-a-half years, Wilfred Ndidi’s tenure at Leicester City has come to an end.
The Nigerian midfielder’s contract with the Foxes expired on June 30, rendering him a free agent and potentially paving the way for a move to Everton, as recent rumors suggest.
Ndidi joined Leicester from Genk in January 2017 for £17 million, becoming an integral part of the team that clinched the FA Cup in 2021.
Despite the club’s relegation from the Premier League in the 2022-23 season, Ndidi remained loyal, contributing significantly to their immediate promotion back to the top flight.
His final season with Leicester saw him net six goals and provide six assists in 36 appearances.
Although Leicester offered Ndidi a contract extension, the 27-year-old has not put pen to paper.
Earlier this summer, he hinted at his openness to new opportunities, telling completesports.com: “If a good chance comes, I won’t mind trying my luck elsewhere but for now I remain a Leicester City player.”
Ndidi’s talent has not gone unnoticed, with Aston Villa reportedly considering a £50 million bid in 2022.
At the time, then-Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers emphasized Ndidi’s value, stating: “He’s worth much more than that.”
As Ndidi’s time at the King Power Stadium comes to a close, his future remains uncertain.
However, recent reports from Football Insider suggest that Everton are in ‘hot pursuit’ of the midfielder, potentially offering him a new challenge in the Premier League.
Ndidi’s departure marks the end of an era for Leicester City, leaving behind a legacy of consistent performances and crucial contributions to the club’s successes over the past seven years.
