AliousTottenham Hotspur are eyeing Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez and Brentford’s Ivan Toney as potential successors to Harry Kane in the current transfer window.
In a recent episode of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke highlighted that Spurs have long been seeking to strengthen their striker position.
The club’s failure to adequately replace Kane last summer led to Richarlison and Heung-min Son filling the void throughout the previous season.
Gimenez, a longstanding target for Tottenham, made a significant impact last season, netting 23 goals in 30 Eredivisie appearances.
However, Brentford’s Toney is also considered an “ideal signing” due to his proven Premier League experience, which would eliminate the need for a league adjustment period.
Sources indicate that Brentford is open to Toney’s departure this summer if their valuation is met, particularly as the 28-year-old’s contract expires next year.
While Tottenham’s focus appears to be on securing a striker, there’s a possibility they might deploy Son as a forward and instead pursue a wide attacker. Pedro Neto and Eberechi Eze are among the targets being monitored for this role, though each would likely cost upwards of £50 million.
However, budget constraints may prevent Spurs from acquiring both a striker and a wide forward in the same window.
The club has already invested £40 million in signing Archie Gray from Leeds United, a versatile player capable of covering multiple positions.
Football Insider also reports that Tottenham remain in the market for a central midfielder this summer, indicating that their transfer activities may not be limited to the forward positions.
