AliousAccording to Keith Wyness, Everton’s former CEO, the club is now in a favorable position to retain Jarrad Branthwaite following the unofficial June 30 deadline.
Wyness, who led Everton from 2004 to 2009 and now advises top clubs, shared his thoughts on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast.
He criticized Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s approach, suggesting that the Manchester United part-owner needs to adjust his tactics after submitting what Wyness termed a “ridiculous” offer for the 22-year-old defender.
Football Insider reported on July 2 that Manchester United is reluctant to meet Everton’s £70 million valuation of Branthwaite.
The Toffees rejected an initial bid of around £35 million plus add-ons last month.
Since then, Everton has filed their 2023-24 accounts and is optimistic about avoiding Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) violations.
Additionally, sources informed Football Insider on July 4 that Manchester City has also expressed interest in acquiring Branthwaite.
Branthwaite, who recently made his England debut, was a consistent presence in Sean Dyche’s team last season.
Wyness believes that Everton can now decline unreasonable offers, such as the one received from Manchester United for Branthwaite.
He added that this approach hasn’t benefited United or Ratcliffe, suggesting that Ratcliffe will learn from this experience.
Wyness expressed hope that Branthwaite will remain with Everton beyond the summer transfer window.
