AliousEverton is close to signing Jesper Lindstrom, but they may acquire another midfielder as well.
The club needs to strengthen their midfield after selling Amadou Onana for about £50 million.
They’ve reportedly agreed to loan Lindstrom from Napoli with an obligation to buy next summer.
While Lindstrom is attack-oriented, Everton also needs a defensive midfielder to replace Onana.
TalkSPORT reports that Everton might offer Kalvin Phillips a chance to join them.
Phillips, who’s returned to Manchester City after an unsuccessful loan at West Ham, isn’t part of Guardiola’s plans.
Sean Dyche is interested in Phillips, but Everton can only afford a loan deal currently.
Fulham is also considering Phillips as a potential replacement for Joao Palhinha, who’s moved to Bayern Munich.
Phillips struggled at West Ham under David Moyes.
He needs a manager who can restore his confidence and a proper pre-season to regain his form.
His career has declined since his impressive performances for England in Euro 2020 and his time at Leeds United under Marcelo Bielsa. The move to Manchester City didn’t work out well for him.
Everton needs a reliable defensive midfielder, as they can’t depend solely on veteran Idrissa Gueye.
Phillips could be a low-risk signing for Everton, and it remains to be seen if they’ll make a formal offer for him.
