AliousCrystal Palace is considering Plymouth Argyle goalkeeper Michael Cooper as a potential replacement for Sam Johnstone, whose future at the club is uncertain.
According to The Sun, Palace is looking to strengthen their goalkeeping options before the new season begins.
Cooper, 24, has been with Plymouth since 2017, making 161 appearances and keeping 55 clean sheets.
Despite playing a crucial role in Plymouth’s promotion to the Championship, his last season was marred by injuries and inconsistent playing time.
Nevertheless, he has attracted interest from both Championship and Premier League clubs.
Palace’s current first-choice goalkeeper is Dean Henderson, who joined from Manchester United last summer.
With Henderson firmly established as the number one, Johnstone’s future at Selhurst Park is in doubt.
The 31-year-old is reportedly drawing interest from Wolves, Leicester City, Southampton, and Bournemouth.
In anticipation of Johnstone’s potential departure, Palace has identified Cooper as an ideal replacement.
The club views him as suitable cover for Henderson, with room for improvement given his young age.
Palace is prepared to make an offer for Cooper, who has a reported asking price of just £3 million, once Johnstone’s situation is resolved.
However, Palace may face competition for Cooper’s signature, with Sheffield United also showing interest in the goalkeeper.
Despite this, Palace remains confident in their ability to secure the deal given their Premier League status and the relatively low asking price.
