AliousGraham Smyth, a journalist for the Yorkshire Evening Post, has expressed doubt about Max Wober’s commitment to Leeds United, despite manager Daniel Farke’s belief to the contrary.
Speaking on the Inside Elland Road podcast on August 8, Smyth questioned Wober’s motives following his return from a loan spell at Borussia Monchengladbach.
Unlike Brenden Aaronson, who willingly spoke to journalists upon his return from Union Berlin, Wober declined to answer questions in Germany.
This has led to speculation that Wober might still be open to leaving Leeds, especially since he’s not expected to be a starter.
Farke has stated that a private conversation with Wober has convinced him of the player’s desire to stay and win over the fans.
However, Smyth remains skeptical, questioning why Wober would suddenly want to play in the Championship after previously expressing a desire to leave.
Smyth contrasted Wober’s behavior with that of Aaronson, who agreed to speak to the press and seems genuinely committed to Leeds.
Wober’s refusal to engage with the media has raised doubts about his true intentions.While Wober’s contract reportedly doesn’t have an active release clause this summer, his previous sudden departure and the unexpected sales of other players like Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville have left fans wary.
It’s speculated that Wober may be staying at Leeds due to a lack of better options, as Borussia Monchengladbach can’t afford Leeds’ asking price.
He might see a strong performance in the Championship as a way to boost his value, but given his past behavior, the possibility of another exit can’t be ruled out until the transfer window closes.
