AliousCrystal Palace is reportedly prepared to make a significant investment in Chelsea’s young talent Carney Chukwuemeka this summer, according to The Sun.
The club is eager to secure the 20-year-old, whose playing time might decrease following the arrival of new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca.
Given the fierce competition at Chelsea, Chukwuemeka might find himself on the fringes of the first team under Maresca’s leadership.
The former Aston Villa midfielder, hailed as a “superstar in the making” by scout Jacek Kulig, could potentially leave before the August 30 transfer deadline to secure regular Premier League playing time.
Despite recently signing Ismaila Sarr from Marseille, Crystal Palace, under Oliver Glasner’s management, is still looking to strengthen their attack following Michael Olise’s move to Bayern Munich.
The club has had a relatively quiet transfer window, bringing in only three new players: Sarr, defender Chadi Riad, and midfielder Daichi Kamada.
The Sun reports that Palace is considering both Chukwuemeka and Trevoh Chalobah, though they prefer a loan deal for the latter.
The club is willing to spend over £20 million on Chukwuemeka and sees Chalobah as a potential replacement for Newcastle-bound Marc Guehi.
Barcelona is also reportedly interested in Chukwuemeka, according to Spanish media.
Earlier in the summer, Chelsea rejected AC Milan’s loan approach for the player.Since joining Chelsea in 2022, Chukwuemeka has made 27 senior appearances, scoring twice and providing one assist in 616 minutes of play.
In separate news, Celtic has inquired about Crystal Palace’s Jeffrey Schlupp, who is reportedly available for transfer.
The versatile 31-year-old, with extensive Premier League experience, has caught the attention of Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Schlupp’s current contract with Palace runs until June 2025.
