AliousCrystal Palace is reportedly pursuing a new wing-back, with Union Berlin’s Robin Gosens emerging as a potential target.
The Eagles have made three signings this summer but still have gaps in their squad, particularly at wing-back.
This need could become more urgent if Manchester United’s rumored interest in Tyrick Mitchell materializes, which would leave Palace without a left wing-back.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Palace has shown concrete interest in Gosens.
The German international had been linked with Torino, but with that club now pursuing Borna Sosa, Palace’s path to signing Gosens may be clearer.Manager Oliver Glasner is said to favor the idea of bringing in the goal-scoring wing-back.
However, Union Berlin’s desire to retain Gosens could complicate negotiations. Having paid £13m for Gosens in 2023, Berlin is unlikely to sell for less.
Gosens’ goal-scoring prowess – he netted six times last season, outscoring Palace’s Jordan Ayew – could add a new dimension to the Eagles’ attack.
His potential arrival might also put pressure on Mitchell’s starting position.
Interestingly, Gosens previously turned down a move to Newcastle United in 2022.
If Palace succeeds in signing him, it could be seen as a small victory over Newcastle, especially given recent transfer links between the two clubs.
Overall, Gosens could prove to be a valuable addition to Crystal Palace’s squad, addressing a key positional need while bringing goal-scoring ability to the wing-back role.
