AliousBrighton & Hove Albion have signed Georginio Rutter from Leeds United for a club-record £40 million, with the 22-year-old agreeing to a five-year contract until 2029.
This marks Brighton’s second record transfer this summer, following the £33 million acquisition of Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle United.
Rutter, who joined Leeds for £35 million in January 2023, departs after 66 appearances, 8 goals, and 18 assists across all competitions.
Initially struggling in the Premier League, he found his form in the Championship last season with 7 goals and 15 assists in 48 matches.
Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler praised Rutter’s ability to excite fans and his performances for Leeds, noting he’s familiar with the player since his time at Hoffenheim.
Technical Director David Weir mentioned that Brighton had been monitoring Rutter for a while, highlighting his technical skills.
In a farewell message to Leeds fans, Rutter expressed gratitude for his time at the club, describing it as a family that supported his growth.
He acknowledged the fans’ support and stated that Leeds United will always be a part of who he is.
Rutter becomes Brighton’s seventh summer signing, joining Minteh, Brajan Gruda, Mats Wieffer, Ibrahim Osman, Malick Yalcouye, and Amario Cozier-Duberry.
He could make his debut for Brighton in their upcoming Premier League home match against Manchester United.
