AliousChelsea may need to heavily subsidize Raheem Sterling’s wages for a potential loan move to Crystal Palace.
Financial expert Stefan Borson suggests Palace is unlikely to pay more than £8 million for a season-long loan, including wages.
Sterling, who earns £325,000 weekly, currently costs Chelsea around £20 million annually when factoring in additional expenses.
The 29-year-old winger was recently left out of Chelsea’s squad against Manchester City, prompting him to release a statement reaffirming his commitment to the club.
However, manager Enzo Maresca has indicated Sterling won’t be part of his plans for the upcoming season.
With Crystal Palace among the clubs interested in Sterling before the August 30 transfer deadline, Chelsea faces a challenging situation.
Borson explains that Palace would likely pay no more than £100,000 weekly for Sterling, plus a small loan fee.
This means Chelsea would need to cover a significant portion of his wages to facilitate a move.
Despite the potential financial loss, Borson argues that even recouping £8 million would be worthwhile for Chelsea, given Sterling’s high costs and lack of place in the squad.
The expert estimates Sterling’s total annual cost to Chelsea, including wages, national insurance, pension, and amortization, at around £20 million.
With Chelsea keen to offload Sterling, their focus now appears to be on minimizing financial damage rather than recouping their investment.
