According to Miguel Delaney, Palace is testing Newcastle’s spending power, amid speculation about Newcastle’s budget constraints and the potential need for a major player sale to fund significant purchases.
The deal’s current status is described as 50/50. Newcastle faces time pressure, as Palace has reportedly set a deadline, refusing to sell Guehi in the final week of the transfer window due to the need to find a replacement.
Newcastle must make a quick decision. While Guehi is a logical target, the club can’t risk being left without a new center-back by prolonging negotiations over a valuation they can’t meet.
Missing out on Guehi would be disappointing, but failing to sign any new defender could be seen as negligent, especially given Eddie Howe’s earlier admission about the need to strengthen the defense.
Time is running out for Newcastle to either conclude the Guehi deal or secure an alternative defensive reinforcement before the transfer window closes.
