AliousA 35-year-old former player has transitioned into coaching after being without a club for a year following his departure from Blackpool at the end of the 2022/23 season.
He has joined Newcastle United’s academy as a sessional coach, alongside several other new additions to the club’s youth development team.
While his coaching experience may be limited, the former midfielder brings valuable insights from his 16-year playing career.
Well-known in Yorkshire, he initially joined Leeds United on loan from Sunderland during the 2015/16 season.
His performances in midfield quickly endeared him to Leeds fans.
The move became permanent in summer 2016, and he was named captain by then-manager Garry Monk.
However, injuries hampered his second season at Elland Road, and he faced strong competition from emerging talents like Kalvin Phillips, Ronaldo Vieira, and Eunan O’Kane.
The Scotland international went on to play for clubs including Bolton Wanderers and Lincoln City before deciding to pursue a coaching career.
