PALACE FANS UNANIMOUS: Nketiah’s Debut Was a Huge Success, But Oliver Glasner Has a Big Decision to make “

Eddie Nketiah made his Crystal Palace debut on Saturday against Leicester in a 2-2 draw.

Premier League action returned for the Eagles on Saturday and it brought two debuts for Crystal Palace.

Eddie Nketiah and Maxence Lacroix both started in the 2-2 draw which saw Jean-Philippe Mateta score twice in a otherwise disappointing performance from the No.14.

Crystal Palace will feel the result is one that got away as the Eagles played well enough to win, with 2.58 expected goals compared to Leicester’s 1.24.

After arriving for £25m during the summer, Nketiah was always bound to play a prominent role and on his debut, he has already achieved that.

One fan on X tweeted: “Nketiah is the best player on the pitch”.

A second fan agreed with this: “Nketiah was our best player by an awfully long distance today.”

While Nketiah impressed, fans were less than thrilled with how he played as a No.10, tweeting that he is better as a striker.

“Nketiah very bad as a 10, sharper as a 9”, one fan tweeted.

However, as Mateta occupies this role, it would mean the brace scorer would need to be dropped.

Nketiah needs to be in Mateta’s position. He’s dropping off too deep. It’s not working”, wrote another fan.

A further fan added: “It’s nothing to do with JPM at all, but I’m curious to see what Eze, Nketiah and Sarr looks like for 25 minutes”

While this sentiment was shared by a final fan: “Nketiah is a baller btw I would rather him up front than Mateta”.

Oliver Glasner has big decisions to make
After the 2-2 draw against Leicester, it seems quite clear that the current system is not the best use of the players at Oliver Glasner’s disposal.

Nketiah is not a No.10 and it feels a waste of him and the position to have him playing in this role.

A better attack might be that Nketiah starts up front – with Mateta less involved anyway and could be a super sub.

Eberechi Eze and Ismaila Sarr could then occupy the two positions behind him which would be plenty of creativity and chances for the striker.
