Both Hull City and Sunderland are dealing with multiple injury concerns ahead of their upcoming weekend clash. Hull City, in particular, has been hit with three significant injuries to key players. Attacking midfielder Abdus Omur, who sustained an injury during Hull’s 4-0 loss to Norwich City before the international break, will miss the game despite being close to recovery, according to manager Tim Walter.
The situation has been further complicated by two additional late injuries: goalkeeper Carl Rushworth and midfielder Steven Alzate both require MRI scans after picking up injuries in the final preparations for Sunday’s match. However, there is some positive news as winger Dogukan Sinik could make his first appearance in the matchday squad this season, following his recovery and participation in a friendly match in Turkey during the international break, though his involvement is expected to be limited.
Walter provided detailed updates on the situation, noting that while Omur had returned to training following the team’s Turkish training camp, he won’t be available for Sunday’s match. Regarding Sinik, Walter expressed satisfaction with the player’s progress and attitude during training camp but emphasized the need for patience as he regains match fitness after a long absence.
The manager remains confident in his squad’s depth despite these setbacks, noting that Rushworth and Alzate haven’t been regular starters this season, with Alzate primarily serving as a substitute while building match fitness since joining as a free agent. The injury list also includes longer-term absentees: striker Ryan Longman (shoulder injury), goalkeepers Thimothee Lo-Tutala and Harvey Cartwright, and defender Andy Smith, who all remain unavailable for selection.
