Many pundits have had to apologize for their predictions about Nottingham Forest this season, as the club has far exceeded expectations with their strong start to the Premier League campaign.
One such pundit is former Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer, who admits he made potentially the worst prediction about Nottingham Forest so far.
Schwarzer, who now works as a pundit for Optus Sport, revealed that he had tipped Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo to be the first Premier League manager sacked this season.
This prediction looks especially bad in hindsight, as Nuno has led Nottingham Forest to third place in the table, earning him consideration for the Premier League Manager of the Month award for October.
Schwarzer acknowledged his mistake, saying “I thought he’d be the first manager to get sacked this season, but they’re flying and they’re now third in the table.”
This may be one of the worst pundit predictions made about Nottingham Forest so far this season. It’s especially surprising given Forest’s struggles with relegation last season.
For Schwarzer to pick them over other struggling clubs like Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich as the team most likely to see their manager sacked is described as “mind-boggling” in retrospect.
Schwarzer is now “pundit number 167” to have been proven wrong about Nottingham Forest’s unexpected success this season. It highlights how pundits have widely underestimated the club, and now have to publicly admit to their faulty preseason predictions.
