Tamworth FC has confirmed the extension of Ben Crompton’s loan spell for an additional month.
The defender’s initial move from Sunderland in November was endorsed by the Black Cats’ academy manager Robin Nicholls, who highlighted the value of senior football experience at National League level for Crompton’s development.
Nicholls had expressed confidence in the move after meeting with Tamworth’s staff, noting that the club’s ambition and approach would create an ideal environment for Crompton to develop.
The young defender already has a taste of first-team football with his parent club, having made his debut for Sunderland in an EFL Cup match against Crewe Alexandra during the previous season.
While Crompton has been included in two matchday squads for Sunderland’s first team this season, he hasn’t yet seen any playing time.
The former Shrewsbury Town player, who remains under contract at Sunderland’s Academy of Light until 2025, will now continue his development at Tamworth as he seeks to gain valuable playing experience in senior football.
