AliousThomas Frank remained resolute after Brentford suffered a 2-0 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest, ending their impressive unbeaten run at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Despite the loss, the Brentford manager argued that his side had dominated large portions of the game but failed to capitalize on the “chance, after chance, after chance” they created.
Goals from Ola Aina and Anthony Elanga secured Forest’s third consecutive league victory, further solidifying their transformation from last season’s relegation battle to legitimate European contenders.
The win also made Forest the first team this season to leave west London with a clean sheet, breaking Brentford’s run of seven wins in their last eight home games.
However, Frank was reluctant to concede that Forest were the better side, even as he acknowledged their defensive discipline.
Speaking to the Brentford club website, Frank said, “We had long stretches where we were on top and dominated.
We created enough chances to score at least one goal, but we lacked the cutting edge.
Forest defended very well, often sitting in a 5-4-1 formation. It’s the first time they’ve used that system this season, even when playing against Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, and Arsenal.
That shows the level of respect they had for us.”
Frank admitted there were lessons to be learned from the defeat, particularly in breaking down such a defensive setup.
Still, he believed the team’s performance warranted a better outcome on another day.
Nottingham Forest, on the other hand, continued their remarkable resurgence, earning their seventh league win in ten games.
Their recent victories at iconic venues like Old Trafford and Anfield, combined with a draw at Stamford Bridge, have underscored their credentials as serious contenders.
Forest now look ahead to a Boxing Day clash against Tottenham Hotspur.
Reflecting on the game, Frank added, “Football is a results-driven business, and winning is always more enjoyable.
But I think we played well against a team currently third in the table. Offensively, we lacked the finishing touch but created plenty of dangerous situations.
Defensively, we gave very little away, but credit must go to Forest for their well-organized performance.”
Despite the disappointment, Brentford will aim to regroup as they push to maintain their strong form for the remainder of the season.
