Harrison Jones has signed a contract extension with Sunderland until 2026, with an optional year extension.
The 19-year-old Under-21s captain, who joined the club’s academy at age six, made his first-team debut this season in the Carabao Cup against Preston and has been named to the bench nine times.
His Under-21s performance includes one goal and four assists in eight Premier League 2 matches. Jones overcame a season-long injury two years ago to reach first-team consideration.
Though he’s currently impressing in the academy setup, with Academy Manager Robin Nicholls praising his development and leadership, his immediate future might involve a loan move for more playing experience.
The player expressed deep connection to his “boyhood club” where he’s spent nearly 15 years, while acknowledging the ongoing work required to secure more first-team opportunities.
The club maintains strong belief in his potential to impact the first team, with Nicholls particularly noting his exemplary response to returning from a significant injury layoff.
