AliousJude Bellingham was spotted seemingly poking fun at Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer during Sunderland’s thrilling 2-2 Boxing Day clash against Blackburn Rovers.
With La Liga on its winter break, the Real Madrid star took the opportunity to watch his younger brother, Jobe, in action for Sunderland. Meanwhile, English football’s festive fixture schedule was in full swing, giving fans and players alike little time to rest.
As Newcastle’s fierce rivals, Sunderland supporters often break into chants of “Shearer is a w*****,” sung to the tune of “He Wears a Magic Hat.” This particular chant is a nod to Shearer’s legendary status at Blackburn Rovers, where he secured the Premier League title in the 1994-95 season. On this occasion, Sunderland fans couldn’t resist bringing out their terrace anthem at Ewood Park – and TV cameras appeared to catch Bellingham himself joining in from the posh seats.
Interestingly, Shearer has previously praised the 21-year-old England international despite being critical of the national team during Euro 2024. Describing Bellingham as “phenomenal,” Shearer commended his confidence, character, and professionalism both on and off the pitch.
“He’s got arrogance in a good way,” Shearer said during the tournament, emphasizing that this trait sets top players apart. “The way he has taken on the responsibility of playing for arguably the biggest club in the world, Real Madrid, is extraordinary. He makes it look effortless.”
Shearer also applauded Bellingham’s eloquence in handling media duties, adding, “It’s impressive how he deals with questions and manages the spotlight. As an England and Real Madrid player, that responsibility can be immense, but he carries it with ease.”
While Shearer’s admiration for Bellingham remains clear, the sight of the midfielder seemingly joining in with Sunderland fans’ mocking chant will undoubtedly add fuel to the already fierce rivalry between Newcastle and Sunderland supporters.
