Nottingham Forest have reportedly renewed their pursuit of Galatasaray forward Baris Yilmaz as the January transfer window approaches. 

The Reds will have from January 1 until the 11pm deadline on February 3 to finalize any mid-season reinforcements. With Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sitting second in the Premier League, the importance of making the right moves in the transfer market cannot be overstated. 

Both owner Evangelos Marinakis and head coach Nuno have emphasized that only minor adjustments are needed, suggesting it could be a relatively quiet transfer window for the club. However, one area that does demand attention is their attacking line. 

Forest’s interest in Yilmaz isn’t new. Reports from Turkey over the summer claimed that the club made a late attempt to sign the 24-year-old on deadline day but were unsuccessful. Now, according to Turkish outlet *Star*, Forest have revived their interest ahead of the January window. 

The report states that Yilmaz is “very close” to securing a move to the Premier League, with Forest among the clubs keen to secure his services. A potential transfer fee of around €20 million (£16.5 million) is being discussed, though Galatasaray reportedly want more. Talks between the two parties are expected to commence soon. 

During the summer, Forest prioritized bolstering their wing options, bringing in Jota Silva and Ramon Sosa to complement Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Now, their focus appears to have shifted to strengthening the central forward position. With Taiwo Awoniyi struggling to make an impact this season and Chris Wood carrying much of the burden up front, additional depth is seen as a priority. 

As the transfer window opens, Forest’s renewed pursuit of Yilmaz could be a pivotal move in their bid to maintain their strong position in the league.
