AliousA former Sunderland player, who left Wearside just this past summer, is already set to switch clubs again after enduring a challenging start to the 2024/25 campaign.
Sunderland have earned a reputation for their no-nonsense approach to squad management, often parting ways with players who fail to meet expectations.
The likes of Nazariy Rusyn have been tipped for a January exit, while others such as Abdoullah Ba or even Adil Aouchiche could potentially follow.
However, Aouchiche’s recent performances suggest he may still carve out a future on Wearside.
One of last summer’s most notable departures was Jack Clarke, sold to Ipswich Town in a £20 million deal.
Several other players exited through loans, releases, or transfers, including academy graduate Elliot Embleton.

Embleton, a fan favorite at Sunderland, famously scored in the League One play-off final and showed promise in the Championship.
However, injuries often limited his impact.
In August, Blackpool signed him for an undisclosed fee, but his stint with the Seasiders has been far from smooth.
The 25-year-old has made 15 appearances in League One this season, registering just one assist and no goals.
Furthermore, he hasn’t featured in Blackpool’s last five matches, as manager Steve Bruce seems to have sidelined him.
Now, as reported by Alan Nixon on Patreon, Embleton is set to join Carlisle United on a three-year deal, seeking a fresh start and more playing opportunities.
What Steve Bruce has said about Embleton’s situation
Bruce has been gradually steering Blackpool back on course after a rough start to the season, which saw Neil Critchley dismissed.
Despite recent improvements, the Seasiders sit in 15th place in League One, while Embleton has found himself out of favor.
Speaking to the *Blackpool Gazette*, Bruce explained:
“I’ve got four or five who weren’t on the bench because we’re getting everyone back fit, and unfortunately, Embo hasn’t been part of the squad.
It’s difficult for him. We don’t have many natural wide players, so we’ve had to juggle that around, and that was the big decision I made.
I thought it was essential, and it’s what we’re doing.”
A fresh start at Carlisle
With Carlisle United currently 23rd in League Two, Embleton’s signing could provide a much-needed boost.
For the player, the move represents a chance to secure regular game time and rediscover his form. If Embleton can perform well, he might prove to be a key asset in Carlisle’s battle to stay in the Football League.
