This time, Chelsea, Guehi’s former club, is reportedly the likelier destination, with Newcastle appearing to have shifted their focus elsewhere. Even so, if the £40 million valuation now being reported proves accurate, some believe Newcastle might rekindle their interest, though the club’s fanbase has shown skepticism about revisiting this target, given how Palace handled the summer negotiations.
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has addressed speculation about his players’ futures, including Guehi’s, offering a mixed response. While Glasner expressed a desire to retain the current squad, he acknowledged the unpredictable nature of the transfer market, telling *The Chronicle*: *“We still have a lot of time left in the transfer window. Like always, everything can happen. But when you ask me, I want us to stay together with this squad. I know Trevoh [Chalobah] wants to stay, I know Marc wants to stay.”*
Meanwhile, Newcastle appear to be exploring other defensive targets. After missing out on Abdukodir Khusanov, who joined Manchester City, the Magpies are reportedly keeping tabs on AC Milan duo Fikayo Tomori and Malick Thiaw. Both players were linked to Newcastle in the summer, and while a January move is considered unlikely, the club may revisit these options when the transfer window reopens in the summer.
For now, it seems Newcastle are taking a more calculated approach, looking to avoid repeating the frustration of the Guehi pursuit and ensuring any new additions align with their long-term plans.
