The Black Cats are reportedly in discussions with Belgian side Westerlo over Matija Frigan, though an agreement appears to be less imminent than some reports suggest. When pressed about the 21-year-old during Monday’s press conference, Le Bris avoided direct comments, highlighting the complexity of ongoing transfer talks.
Le Bris has consistently emphasized his desire to bring in players who can make an immediate impact, but any new addition would need to adapt to the team dynamic, particularly with Wilson Isidor firmly established as Sunderland’s first-choice striker. As a result, Le Bris is prioritizing a player who offers versatility and can provide valuable flexibility across the attacking positions.
“It’s clear the positioning of our current players is very good,” Le Bris said. “One option is to find a versatile player who can operate on the left, right, and as a striker. That could solve the situation, but finding such a player isn’t easy. We’ll see how things progress.”
The transfer market has been fiercely competitive, as seen with Ben Brereton-Diaz joining Sheffield United and Leicester’s Tom Cannon also expected to make a move. These developments have intensified Sunderland’s search, potentially broadening the pool of targets.
Le Bris acknowledged the challenges of the market, saying, “There’s a lot of speculation and behind-the-scenes work, but it’s hard to comment on rumours. It’s clear we want to reinforce that position, but it’s about finding the right profile. It’s not just about our interest; the player also has to align with us. It’s about connection, and that process isn’t complete yet.”
