AliousNectar Triantis has expressed his desire to establish himself as a regular player for Sunderland in the future.
Currently on loan at Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership, the Australian has enjoyed a breakthrough season, thriving as a midfielder despite being initially signed by Sunderland as a centre-back.
Triantis, 21, has made 19 appearances for Hibs this season, contributing two goals and two assists.
Speaking to Sunderland’s in-house media, he said, “Sunderland are always checking in and giving me feedback.
They’ve been incredibly supportive. I still keep in touch with a lot of the lads, especially Chris [Rigg] and Leo [Hjelde].
I’m not surprised to see the team doing so well. With a group of young players gaining experience, it was only a matter of time before they started to shine. Sunderland is my club.
My ultimate goal is to wear the red and white regularly, but right now, my focus is on my time with Hibs.”
Triantis also shared his ambition to earn a call-up to the Australian national team, adding, “I’m working hard to be at the top of my game.
There’s a camp in March, and I’m hopeful, but if not, I’ll keep pushing. Every player dreams of representing their country, and I’d like to believe I’m heading in the right direction.”
Signed by Sunderland from Central Coast Mariners in June 2023, Triantis initially struggled for first-team opportunities.
Now in his second loan spell at Hibs, following a six-month stint last season, he credits the move for his growth as a player.
“I’m loving every moment at Hibs. I think my performances show that,” he said. “My entire game has evolved.
I feel like a completely different player compared to last season.
Overcoming adversity has been a big challenge, but I’m working hard to keep this momentum going.”
The transition from defense to midfield has been a revelation for Triantis.
“I’ve always been comfortable in midfield, but this switch has been transformative.
It’s given me the freedom to express myself, and when you enjoy your football, you’ll play anywhere.
This loan has been everything I hoped for in terms of development.”
He also praised Hibs manager David Gray and the competitive nature of the Scottish Premiership.
“The manager has been brilliant, helping me adapt to my new position. Playing consistently in a league like this has taught me so much.
Competing against Europe’s elite teams, like Celtic and Rangers, is an incredible challenge. The supporters here are fantastic.”
Reflecting on his recent goal-scoring form, Triantis said, “The staff have encouraged me to get forward and score, and it’s been great to add that to my game.
My priority is to help the team, and I’m thankful for the dynamics of this squad, which allow me to showcase my best qualities.”
As Triantis continues to shine at Hibs, he remains focused on his development while keeping his long-term sights firmly set on making an impact at Sunderland.
