However, the Ukrainian international has opted against a return to his home country and is now set to join Croatian club HNK Hajduk Split.
According to TaToTake, as reported by Ukraine’s *Football 24*, Hajduk Split has made an offer to sign the 26-year-old on loan with an option to buy. Sunderland has reportedly accepted the proposal, and Rusyn has traveled to Croatia to undergo medical examinations and finalize the deal.
This information is further backed by *Dynamo Mania*, which confirms that the forward is close to sealing the move to Hajduk Split.
The Croatian side, currently managed by Gennaro Gattuso, is set to sign Rusyn on a loan deal with the potential for a permanent transfer.
Both Aberdeen and Cherkasy had also expressed interest in the attacker, but Rusyn turned down their advances.
Instead, he arrived in Croatia yesterday to complete medical tests and sign his contract.
Rusyn has struggled for playing time at Sunderland this season, managing just 162 minutes across 10 Championship appearances.
The move to Hajduk Split offers him a fresh opportunity to reignite his career.
