Wolves Still Keen on ‘Magical’ Midfielder After Failed January Transfer Attempt

**Wolves Still Keen on ‘Magical’ Midfielder After Failed January Transfer Attempt**

Wolverhampton Wanderers were close to securing a late January deal for **Sporting Lisbon’s Hidemasa Morita**, according to *A Bola* (via *Sport Witness*), but financial hurdles saw the move collapse. Despite the setback, Wolves remain interested in the Japanese international and could reignite their pursuit this summer.

Wolves’ Late Push for Hidemasa Morita**

The Molineux side identified Morita, 29, as a potential midfield reinforcement for **Vitor Pereira’s squad** following the deadline-day departure of **Mario Lemina** to Galatasaray. Wolves approached Sporting last month, but negotiations stalled as the club wasn’t willing to exceed **€10 million (£8.3 million)** for the midfielder, who turns 30 in May.

Morita, who joined Sporting from Santa Clara in July 2022, is now in the final 18 months of his contract. Sporting are reportedly keen to offer him an extension, but should talks break down, Wolves are expected to return with another bid during the summer transfer window.

Why Wolves Could Make Another Move**

If Morita enters the final year of his contract without an agreement on new terms, Sporting might be forced to lower their asking price—potentially below the €10 million mark that initially put Wolves off. This situation could play perfectly into Wolves’ hands as they look to bolster their midfield with an experienced, technically gifted player.

Described as **‘magical’** by *Breaking The Lines*, Morita has been a standout performer for Sporting this season, contributing **2 goals and 3 assists** in **26 appearances** across all competitions. His vision, passing range, and tactical intelligence have made him a key figure in Ruben Amorim’s side, which claimed the **Primeira Liga title** last season. Morita started 24 of Sporting’s 34 league matches during that championship-winning campaign, underlining his importance to the team.

Wolves’ Transfer Strategy Under Vitor Pereira**

Wolves were active during Pereira’s first transfer window at the helm, strengthening their squad with the signings of **Emmanuel Agbadou** and **Nasser Djiga** to reinforce the defense, while **Marshall Munetsi** was added to the midfield. They also managed to fend off interest from Premier League rivals to secure **Matheus Cunha** on a new long-term deal.

The impact of these signings has been positive, with Wolves climbing out of the relegation zone following a crucial **2-0 victory over Aston Villa**. They’ll look to build on that momentum when they face **Blackburn Rovers** in the FA Cup fourth round this Sunday.

Hidemasa Morita’s 2024/25 Stats (All Competitions):**
– **Games:** 26
– **Goals:** 2
– **Assists:** 3
– **Minutes Played:** 1,617

With Morita’s future at Sporting uncertain, Wolves will be watching closely. If contract talks stall, expect Wolves to pounce again—this time with a better chance of landing their ‘magical’ midfield target at a bargain price.
