Enzo Le Fée believes that Sunderland’s push for Premier League promotion is the ideal opportunity to get his career back on track. The French midfielder, currently on loan from Roma, has made an immediate impact at the Stadium of Light after a difficult spell in Italy.
Le Fée, 25, struggled for game time in the Italian capital, making just 10 appearances following his €23 million transfer last summer. Roma’s turbulent season, which saw them go through three different head coaches, only added to his frustration. Now, he sees his time in the Championship as the perfect reset.
“When I arrived, my goal was simple—to play football, to rediscover my best form,” he told *BBC Radio Newcastle.* “This is the perfect project for me. Sunderland has a young, talented squad, and I want to help with my goals, assists, and determination.”

Le Fée’s decision to join Sunderland was heavily influenced by head coach Régis Le Bris, who previously coached him at Lorient. When Le Bris reached out to check on his situation in Rome, the midfielder was immediately interested.
“He knew I wasn’t playing much,” Le Fée recalled. “He explained the project, but honestly, he didn’t have to say much. I’ve known him for a long time, and as soon as we spoke, I told my agent, ‘I want to go to Sunderland.’”
His move has already started paying off. In six appearances, he has registered one goal and two assists, injecting creativity into Sunderland’s promotion campaign. The Black Cats remain unbeaten in those matches, with three wins and three draws, though they still have ground to make up—sitting fourth in the table, seven points behind leaders Leeds United and five behind second-placed Sheffield United.
