“Crystal Palace Loanee Drops Huge Hint at Shock EFL Transfer After Glasner Bust-Up!”

Rob Holding is already thinking about his future beyond his loan spell at Sheffield United, hinting at a potential permanent move this summer.

The 29-year-old defender, currently on loan from Crystal Palace, has already made more appearances for the Blades than he did for the Eagles since his £4 million transfer from Arsenal in 2023—a move that ultimately failed to work out. 

Holding found himself sidelined at Crystal Palace following a reported fallout with manager Oliver Glasner and was desperate for a fresh start.

His loan to Sheffield United, secured on the final day of the transfer window, has given him an opportunity to reignite his career, and he’s relishing the chance to contribute. 

Speaking about his experience at Bramall Lane, Holding acknowledged the risk Sheffield United took on him due to his lack of recent game time.

“I was in a bit of a weird place in my career, and I just needed a team to take a chance on me,” he told *The Star*. “Sheffield United did that, and if I can repay that faith, all the better.” 

When asked about the possibility of making the move permanent, Holding was open to the idea but remained focused on the present. “Potentially,” he said.

“It’s a discussion to be had in the summer, but for now, I’m enjoying the moment and doing what I can to help the team.” 

Holding’s only appearance for Crystal Palace came in a Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester United in September 2023, but he boasts significant experience at the top level, having played 98 Premier League matches and winning two FA Cups during his seven years at Arsenal. 

His situation at Palace became complicated when Glasner confirmed in October that Holding was training separately from the squad. “Rob is training individually at the moment,” Glasner stated. “We’ve spoken, and he knows the reason, but that remains between us.” 

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder was keen to bring in defensive reinforcements following Harry Souttar’s injury and sees Holding as a valuable addition. “We’ve been light in central defense, so we’re delighted to add Rob,” Wilder said at the time of his signing. “He has played at the highest level for years, and while we had to be patient, we’re happy to have him here.” 

With Sheffield United currently pushing for promotion from the Championship, Holding’s future could hinge on whether the club secures a return to the Premier League.
