AliousPierre Ekwah, currently on loan from Sunderland, has emphasized that his primary focus is on helping Saint-Étienne avoid relegation from Ligue 1, despite ongoing speculation about his long-term future.
The midfielder joined the French club on a temporary deal late in the summer transfer window and has since become a key player, making 19 league appearances. However, Saint-Étienne has struggled throughout the season and currently finds itself in a relegation play-off position, just two points clear of automatic relegation.
Ekwah’s future remains uncertain beyond this campaign. Saint-Étienne reportedly has an option to make his move permanent for around £6 million, while recent reports suggest that Sunderland is unlikely to reintegrate him into their squad next season.
Despite the uncertainty, the 22-year-old insists his focus is solely on keeping Saint-Étienne in the top flight before making any decisions regarding his next step. Speaking to *Foot-Sur 7*, Ekwah stated:
**”The priority is to help the team escape this difficult situation and secure survival. My aim is to keep improving, perform at my best, and contribute as much as possible. My personal future is not a concern right now.”**
Ekwah also shed light on his decision to join Saint-Étienne, explaining that discussions with former head coach Olivier Dall’Oglio and sporting director Loïc Perrin convinced him to make the switch. He was drawn to the club’s long-term vision and eager to test himself in Ligue 1.
In a separate interview with *Allez Les Lions*, Ekwah reflected on the challenges of returning to his home country and adjusting to top-flight football. He admitted that his performances have mirrored Saint-Étienne’s inconsistent form, marking this as a steep learning curve in his career.
