Kevin Danso explains his decision to choose EPL GIANT over Wolverhampton citing them as a larger and more prestigious football club.

Kevin Danso has opened up about his decision to reject Wolves in favor of a January move to Tottenham, shedding light on the brief but influential conversation he had with Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou before making the switch from Lens.

Since arriving in North London, the Austrian defender has made an immediate impact, seamlessly integrating into Tottenham’s backline. His performances suggest a level of comfort and familiarity that defies the short time he has spent at the club. Postecoglou has been quick to acknowledge Danso’s leadership qualities and the positive influence he has had in the dressing room, further underlining his value to the squad.

Why Danso Chose Tottenham Over Wolves**

Reports at the time of his transfer indicated that Spurs swooped in at the last minute to hijack a deal that had seemingly been agreed between Lens and Wolves. Now, Danso has provided insight into why he ultimately chose Tottenham, making it clear that turning down such an opportunity was never an option for him.

Reflecting on the situation, the 26-year-old said (via *Football.London*):

“I’m here now, and I try not to dwell too much on the past. What’s done is done, and I can’t change that. But when a club like Spurs comes knocking, it’s not something many players would say no to—certainly not me. That’s why I’m here today.”*

With a crucial Europa League Round of 16 clash against AZ Alkmaar on the horizon, Danso admitted that competing in European football was one of the key factors that drew him to Tottenham. When asked if playing in Europe influenced his decision to join Spurs, he was unequivocal:

“Yeah, 100 per cent. Spurs is a big club, and being in Europe is where we belong. That’s what we aim for every season—to build on the club’s history, hopefully by winning trophies. That’s our goal, and it starts with winning the next game.”*

His Conversation with Ange Postecoglou

Many of Tottenham’s recent signings have cited conversations with Postecoglou as pivotal in convincing them to join the club. The Australian manager’s ability to sell his vision was reportedly a major factor in Matys Tel’s last-minute change of heart when Spurs pursued him.

However, Danso revealed that he needed little persuasion. When asked whether his discussion with Postecoglou helped finalize his decision, he downplayed its significance, stating that the conversation was brief but effective:

“To be honest, it didn’t take much. The chat was short and to the point—he just gave me a quick insight into how he wants his team to play. It was a simple conversation, but after that, I was 100% sure.”*

Danso’s comments highlight his excitement about the project at Tottenham and his determination to help the club achieve success, both domestically and in Europe.
