AliousThe Football Association has confirmed that video assistant referee (VAR) technology will be implemented for the three FA Cup quarter-finals hosted at Premier League stadiums, as well as for both semi-finals and the final at Wembley.
This decision follows the technology’s first use in English football during seven of the eight fifth-round fixtures earlier this month.
Its introduction in the Premier League is also anticipated before the season concludes, with sources close to the matter suggesting it could be rolled out during the midweek matches scheduled between April 1 and 3.
Originally, officials aimed to introduce the system after an international break last autumn, but those plans were delayed.
However, momentum has since gathered, and Premier League Chief Football Officer Tony Scholes has expressed confidence in the technology.
Developed by Genius Sports, he described it as “the most accurate and future-proof” system available.
In addition to confirming VAR’s presence in the remaining rounds of the FA Cup, the FA also announced that in-stadium announcements would be made at the conclusion of VAR reviews, ensuring greater clarity for fans inside the venues.
