AliousNectar Triantis, currently on loan at Hibernian (Hibs) from Sunderland, has shared insights into his career aspirations as his performances in Edinburgh thrust him into the spotlight for international selection. Meanwhile, concerns about a teammate’s injury have been put to rest.
The dynamic midfielder has been a standout performer for David Gray’s Hibs squad during his second loan spell in Leith, seamlessly shifting from a defensive role to a midfield position with impressive skill. As Sunderland chase promotion to the Premier League, Triantis faces important decisions about his future come the summer.
He’s currently on international duty with Australia alongside Hibs teammates Martin Boyle and Lewis Miller, both of whom found the net in last week’s victory over Indonesia, with a match against China looming on Tuesday GMT. Triantis has his sights set on the Premier League as he contemplates his next steps.
Sunderland Loanee Reflects on Hibs and Ambitions
Speaking at a press conference in Australia, Triantis commented: “Sunderland is my parent club, but I’ve developed a real fondness for Hibs after spending what will be 18 months there across my loans. It’s been a great experience, and I’ll see what unfolds this summer.
Playing in the Premier League, the top league globally, is a major ambition of mine—like it is for most players. Getting promoted with Sunderland would be a personal milestone, and then it’s about working relentlessly to secure a place in that squad. Being dubbed the ‘Aussie Rodri’ by fans is a huge compliment, and their support really drives me.
I just need to stay focused, keep grinding, and seize my chance when it comes. A strong mindset is key—I can’t afford to slack off.”
Martin Boyle praised Triantis, saying: “He’s earned this call-up with his performances at Hibs this season.
He’s still young and has plenty to learn, but coming into this setup after the form he’s shown is ideal. He can get a feel for our style of play, and it’s a great opportunity for growth. Patience will be important, but I’m confident he’d step up if given the chance.”
Boyle Eases Injury Concerns
Hibs fans might have been worried when Boyle, who’d scored three goals, left the Indonesia game at halftime. The winger has been pivotal for Gray this season, rediscovering his peak form, but he reassured supporters it was merely a precaution. “I’m fine—no real problems,” Boyle explained.
“Just a slight groin tightness, which happens in football. The staff decided to play it safe, and with us leading 3-0 at the break, it was an easy call. It worked out well for me and the team—no issues at all.”
Boyle also reflected on his Socceroos return: “Getting here takes hard work. [Coach] Popovic recognizes the talent in this group, and our depth makes it competitive—you’ve got to be at your best. I’ve managed to stand out and reclaim my spot, which feels great, but the challenge is staying there.
The November camp was a wake-up call, and I’m glad I’ve hit top form again. I’m playing well, but I’m hungry for more—both in terms of my performances and what I can contribute overall.”
