AliousMarshall Munetsi has quickly made himself at home at Wolverhampton Wanderers, emerging as a fan favorite at Molineux since his January move.
The Zimbabwe international was brought in by manager Vitor Pereira to strengthen the midfield, arriving from Ligue 1 outfit Stade Reims.
He wasn’t the only Reims player to join Wolves that window—central defender Emmanuel Agbadou also made the switch, adding further depth to the squad.
Munetsi has been vocal in his admiration for Agbadou, both upon their arrival and in the weeks since, offering insights into their dynamic before they even set foot in the West Midlands.
Currently, the duo is representing their respective nations during the March international break, with Munetsi shining for Zimbabwe.
Wolves fans will be hoping his fine form translates back to club action when they face West Ham next.
In a recent chat with Express and Star before heading off for international duty, Munetsi reflected on his early days at Wolves and reserved special praise for Agbadou.
“I used to tease him that he’s built for English football—aggressive, powerful, and good on the ball,” Munetsi said of his teammate. “It’s not a shock to see him doing well here. I actually thought he’d move to a league like this sooner, but timing in football can be unpredictable.”
Munetsi emphasized that Agbadou’s strong start in England is no fluke, pointing to the defender’s reputation in France. “Back in Ligue 1, everyone was intimidated by him.
I’ll never forget a game against PSG where he completely neutralized Mbappé—it was like he locked him up.
That’s rare, but for us, Emmanuel’s always been exceptional.” Munetsi highlighted how Agbadou managed to do what few can: silence the electric Kylian Mbappé.
Agbadou’s track record against the French superstar backs up Munetsi’s claims. While many defenders in France breathed a sigh of relief when Mbappé departed PSG for Real Madrid, Agbadou might have seen it differently.
In four matchups against PSG during Mbappé’s tenure, Agbadou’s team only lost once—a game where Mbappé bagged a hat-trick.
Beyond that, the Ivorian kept the prolific forward in check and even held his own against Lionel Messi, showcasing his composure against world-class talent.
Munetsi, perhaps more than anyone, recognizes the gem Wolves secured in Agbadou. Both players have hit the ground running in England, with the defender’s early performances already turning heads.
Together, they’re proving to be shrewd additions to Pereira’s squad.
