Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Brown revealed that Forest are ready to shatter their transfer record to finalize the deal, though their pursuit is contingent on earning a spot in the Champions League—a goal they’re currently well-positioned to achieve.
Under Nuno Espirito Santo’s leadership, Forest have carved out a comfortable seven-point lead over sixth-placed Newcastle United, fueling their preparations to enhance the squad for the challenges ahead.
Cunha, a 25-year-old standout at Wolves, has emerged as their primary target after an eye-catching campaign, netting 13 goals and contributing four assists across 26 Premier League outings. His recent contract extension with Wolves features a hefty £62.5million release clause—nearly double the £35million Forest paid Newcastle for Elliot Anderson in 2024, which stands as their current record transfer fee.

Cunha, though, offers a complete package: he creates, he runs, he thrives with the ball at his feet, and he’s a proven goal-scorer. He’d slot perfectly into that Forest side.”
Brown also noted that Champions League qualification would unlock significant financial flexibility, enabling Forest to splash out on a record-breaking fee for Cunha. “It’s shaping up to be a massive summer,” he added. “We’ve seen teams qualify for Europe and then struggle without the depth to cope. Forest will be active—they’ll need to bolster their ranks to handle that step up.”

In addition to their bold pursuit of Cunha, Forest are exploring a move for Brentford’s Yoanne Wissa to further strengthen their frontline.
