AliousBrighton’s standout player Georginio Rutter may be sidelined for an extended period following an injury sustained during their FA Cup match against Nottingham Forest.
The ex-Leeds United star was visibly upset as he exited the field in the 74th minute of the penalty-shootout loss at the Amex Stadium last Saturday.
The 22-year-old seemed to injure his ankle on the pitch in an incident away from the ball, later spotted hobbling significantly while wearing a protective boot.
After the game, the £40m signing from Leeds over the summer was seen boarding an ambulance at the stadium, en route to the hospital for further evaluation.
Rutter has been a pivotal figure for Brighton this season, thriving in the No. 10 position with an impressive tally of eight goals and five assists across all competitions.
The French talent’s availability for the upcoming Premier League fixture against Aston Villa on Wednesday is now in serious doubt, and with only nine league games remaining, there’s a real chance his season could be cut short.
“He might need a scan,” head coach Fabian Hurzeler commented after the match. “I don’t have more to add at this stage.”
The Seagulls are anxiously awaiting positive updates this week, with more clarity expected during Tuesday morning’s press conference ahead of the Villa clash.
Adding to their woes, defender Adam Webster is also a worry after picking up a hamstring issue just before extra time in the Forest game.
Meanwhile, Solly March and Mats Wieffer face assessments before the midweek match, as Hurzeler confirmed to Sussex World that both were absent against Forest due to injuries.
