Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly made initial inquiries about teenage sensation Marwin Schmitz of St. Pauli, as the Premier League club seeks to outmaneuver stiff competition from Juventus and several top Bundesliga outfits.
According to *Tuttosport*, Juventus have already made proactive steps toward luring the 18-year-old midfielder, who recently signed his first professional contract with St. Pauli in January—tying him to the club until 2027. Despite that deal, the Italian giants are eager to secure his signature and view Schmitz as an emerging talent comparable in style and versatility to Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich.
Schmitz’s performances have not only caught the attention of Juventus. Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, and Stuttgart have also made their interest known. The player is widely admired in Germany for his technical ability, maturity on the ball, and tactical awareness beyond his years.
Premier League side Brighton have now entered the race, having already “asked for information” about the young German as they continue to scout globally for promising talent. Brighton’s interest is particularly notable given their newly appointed manager Fabian Hürzeler’s background—he joined from St. Pauli earlier this year and likely had a close-up view of Schmitz’s development.
This connection could give Brighton a valuable edge in the race for his signature. Hürzeler is likely to be a strong advocate for Schmitz’s potential and may play a direct role in persuading him to join the Seagulls.
Juventus, however, may still hold a trump card: Schmitz is reportedly drawn to the idea of moving to Italy and progressing through Juve’s Next Gen development system, which has recently borne fruit for young players like Dean Huijsen. The Turin-based club views the midfielder as a “clever market investment,” particularly as his current valuation is less than €1 million—a figure that may rise rapidly with growing interest.
