‘Agreement Very Close’ – Arsenal Make Late Bid to Hijack Man Utd Move for Wolves Star Matheus Cunha

A major development has emerged in the race for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha, with Arsenal launching a late attempt to outmaneuver Manchester United for the Brazilian’s signature. After weeks of speculation surrounding Cunha’s future, a summer departure from Molineux appears all but certain.

Cunha, who has enjoyed a standout Premier League campaign with 15 goals and six assists in 30 appearances, is widely regarded as one of Wolves’ most valuable assets. The 25-year-old has reportedly drawn serious interest from several top-flight clubs, most notably Manchester United, who have been leading the charge in recent weeks. According to *Birmingham World*, the Red Devils have already notified Wolves of their intention to activate Cunha’s £62.5 million release clause—inserted into the new contract he signed in February—and are now negotiating personal terms with the player’s camp.

Though Cunha is said to be enthusiastic about United’s long-term football project, final agreement has not yet been reached. This delay has opened the door for rival clubs, and Arsenal have now entered the fray with a serious push of their own.

As per *GOAL Brazil*, the Gunners are making a “late push” to secure Cunha’s services. Further credibility is added by journalist Ben Jacobs, who claims Arsenal have re-engaged with Cunha’s representatives to explore a deal. A key figure in this pursuit is new Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta, the same executive who originally signed Cunha for Atletico Madrid and later orchestrated his move to Wolves in 2023 for £42 million.

While Cunha doesn’t perfectly match Arsenal’s need for a traditional centre-forward, Mikel Arteta is believed to view the versatile attacker as an ideal addition to support the club’s title ambitions. Capable of playing as a second striker or advanced playmaker, Cunha would add attacking depth to a squad that faltered late in the title race due to injuries and a lack of rotation options up front.

Despite Arsenal’s renewed interest, Manchester United remain the favourites to complete the deal. Sources suggest the club is intent on concluding negotiations swiftly to avoid being gazumped. Newcastle United, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest have also been linked, but their interest currently trails that of the two Premier League heavyweights.

Cunha, a 13-time Brazil international, is reportedly eager to resolve his future before the season’s end. Although grateful to Wolves for the platform they provided, he is ready to take the next step in his career—a decision that could shape his trajectory for years to come. Across all competitions, Cunha has produced 33 goals and 15 assists in 89 appearances for Wolves, firmly establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most dynamic forwards.
